Entry judging time has started, meaning all work on your submissions must stop!

Each contestant now has 48 hours to show their entry to the judges to have it scored. You will likely need to coordinate with judges individually due to scheduling differences, so be sure to either reach out via Steam (link provided above) or through the IJWTB Discord server to have your entry judged.

So far, some/most judges have seen MrTwister, Darken, Logzombie, and Rakinjra's entries. There are still 15 other contestants to go.

Here is the most up-to-date judging matrix.

The following contestants have not shown their entries:
- ThatOneTeletubbie
- The Bloodmoon_v2

If we don't see your entry by the end of the day, you will be disqualified.

"I play to much PayDay 2" and "Joe Mama's New Rig" have only been scored by 1 judge, and there is no video uploaded yet to do remote scoring, so I would suggest you show us your entries by the end of today.

As a reminder for current and future events, the rules clearly state that working on your entry before the contest starts will disqualify you.
You are not allowed to work on an entry days/weeks/months/years in advance and then try to enter it into the competition.

Similarly, all work on your entries must cease once the building period is over (it was extended to 4 days total this year because of the unexpected server downtime).
There has been some confusion about the split between building days and judging days, so we will attempt to better clarify these deadlines for future events.

All valid entries have been scored and are being adjusted/finalized. I will probably work on combining scores tomorrow and start crafting the results post over the weekend.

We had 19 players sign up this year, with only 1 drop out and 2 disqualified, resulting in 16 judged entries, the most we've ever had over 9 years! The competition was stiff and the playing field was as crowded as ever.

Even with all 4 judge slots filled and 64 scores to give out, everyone managed to wrap the contest up quickly this year. We were able to score every entry this year thanks to sharing screenshots and videos. I want to thank all of the other judges for helping out this year and being available so quickly.

Honorable Mention to MochaFappuccino (STEAM_0:1:54644788) for entering the contest but not having time to participate-- maybe next year!

As a reminder to thoroughly read the contest rules, the following players were disqualified:
- The Bloodmoon_V2 (working on entry beyond deadline)
- Funtime Spring Bonnie (entry made before contest)

The list below shows the contestants that were judged during the event in order from the lowest score (top) to the highest score (bottom). The scoring was done based on a 1-10 scoring system (in increments of 0.5) with individual scores and a final average score for each entry.

And now, for the final results for this year's Halloween contest...

16th Place - PumpKindOf (STEAM_0:0:67451334)

"Mushroom Manor" (Unfinished)

Due to a misunderstanding on the timing of the contest, this Mushroom Manor was not finished in time. Though not much to see at its current state, the plans PumpKindOf had for it sounded very promising and we hope to see another one of his entries next year.

15th Place - I play to much Payday 2 (STEAM_0:0:484456086)

Bloody Skeleton

Coming in at 15th Place, this PAC featured a bloody skeleton zombie amalgamation that looks like it could rip you to shreds. While fitting the Halloween theme quite well, there were no other features that the PAC touted to raise its score. Only one judge was able to review it in-person and the rest were not able to get in contact, so we had to rely on screenshots alone.

14th Place - DB7 (STEAM_0:1:220441640)

Graveyard Maze

At 14th place, DB7’s mini graveyard maze had interactable hidden buttons to open blocked off areas with a jump scare waiting for whoever came through. In order to escape, you must navigate through and examine the headstones for a hidden switch.

12th Place (Tied) - Rankinjra (STEAM_0:1:224214014)

Abandoned House

Our other entry tied at 12th place was Rankinjra’s abandoned house. A long stairwell led to the porch of the dimly lit house, which contain two floors with multiple bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. While the effort put into constructing the house was appreciated, the lack of an apparent Halloween theme meant it did not score as highly as it could have.

12th Place (Tied) - The Plane (STEAM_0:1:242877318)

"Abandoned C17 Train Tunnel"

Tied for 12th place, The Plane’s entry consisted of a long stretch of abandoned train tunnel connected to a storage area and generator room. There was also a short room with a window looking out into the tunnel that contained a playing radio and a chair to sit. The entry was nicely put together, albeit a little too dark in the rooms connected to the tunnel. Without a strong Halloween theme, the scores were not as high as they could potentially have been.

11th Place - DJ Reni (STEAM_0:1:52370125)

"Podracer"

In 11th Place, DJ Reni’s E2 and ACF controllable Podracer featured a 2D-in-3D-space HUD showing the both thruster levels and throttle. While slow to initially reach peak velocity and difficult to steer, the podracer was fun to drive at top speed. Since the thrust levels did not decrease on their on over time, the only way to slow down and quickly turn was to engage the throttle, which immediate kills all thrust. Overall being a realistic looking and feeling podracer, the entry’s score was hampered by its lack of adhering to a Halloween theme.

10th Place - Undo (STEAM_0:0:152472761)

"The Orb" (Unfinished)

“The Orb”, Undo’s PAC entry which came in at 10th place, featured a fiercely glowing red orb flying with particle wings that played dissonant sounds as you approached. Once close enough, the orb shattered along with its wings, revealing a glowing-eyed Luigi in fetal position. A blinding white light emits as Luigi stands up and sprouts his own wings, emitting a disturbing sound as he soars through the air (Giygas’ theme).

9th Place - Skeletor (STEAM_0:1:73547290)

"Jacked Box"

Coming in at 9th place, Skeletor’s Jacked Box was a crank-controlled jack-in-the-box. Music that was tied to the speed of the crank played while winding up until the crank became locked in place. A little tune played for a couple moments, and then quite sudden a bloody, screeching zombie pops out of the box and attacks.

8th Place - JellyBeans (STEAM_0:1:67759219)

"Five Nights At Freddy’s" Recreation (Unfinished)

At 8th place, this entry features a work-in-progress recreation of the original Five Nights At Freddy’s game, including a central control area with an interactable computer monitor, updating clock display, and controllable left, right, and center hallway lights. The whole Freddy’s building had been fleshed out with rooms decorated with party hats and streamers, men’s and women’s bathrooms, a storage room, and a stage area. Though the full functionality was far from finished, it was evident that a lot of effort had been put into the entry and was overall done well.

"Cacodemon" from DOOM

Joe Mama’s entry, which came in at 7th place, featured a pilotable Cacodemon whose appearance was a combination of both DOOM and DOOM Eternal variations. The cacodemon had the ability to fly around the map with an openable mouth, and could charge and fire an explosive energy blast.

5th Place (Tied) - ThatOneTeletubbie (STEAM_0:0:91151124)

"Nakal, My Childhood Nightmare"

The second entry tied for 5th place was ThatOneTeletubbie’s “Nakal” PAC, a uniquely made floating ghoul. Nakal featured an eerily high pitch animated screech, and could attack players. As a bonus goodie, Nakal could also dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” song, perfectly fitting for Halloween.

5th Place (Tied) - Abridged Mangoes (STEAM_0:1:60790564)

"Spoop"

Tied for 5th place, Abridged Mangoes’ “Spoop” entry was a two-story house with an affixed graveyard in the backyard. The first floor was populated with pumpkins around the walls, and had a flicking television in the center of the room. Walking out to the backyard, there was a fully grown pumpkin tree with two rows of graves at its base. Walking behind the tree and examining a lone grave reveals a jump scare. Going back inside, a functional elevator could be taken to the second floor. Once the elevator doors opened, the scene of an on-going pumpkin ritual surrounded in lit candles could be observed in the center of the room.

4th Place - Darken (STEAM_0:1:33384805)

"Taz’Ket Maze"

Darken’s 4th place entry was self-described as “a maze forged before 500 BC by the locals, it houses haunted energy that has manifested into a demon; The Hunter”. The maze was large and well-constructed many misleading dead-ends. The hunter follows the player through various corridors with a jump scare effect. As the player wanders the maze, they activate 4 separate levels to link 4 crystals together. Once all crystals are linked, the exit is revealed. At the exit is a trippy textured tube sequence.

3rd Place - MrTwister (STEAM_0:0:77812279)

"Abandoned Mountainside Prison"

Coming in strong at 3rd place, MrTwister’s abandoned mountainside prison featured a beautifully decorated mountain exterior with a PAC-controlled gloomy rain weather effect. As you enter the trash-strewn prison corridors, several player-interactable actions can occur. A hidden gnome can be found in the first room. Walking further past the vault area and into the cells, a locked cell door with an entry pad was spotted. At the far end of the cells with broken gate doors is a secret passageway, leading to an open cave in the mountain. An escaped convict, dead or potentially alive, can be found slumped over at the other end of the cave. Heading back to the cells, a functioning radio can be found that plays an ominous tune and announces a series of numbers. After using the numbers to open the locked cell and being locked inside, an unplugged electrical socket is found near a table with a radio. Plugging in the socket causes a blackout as objects in the room start to float and become digitized. A person’s body slowly materializes and starts dancing to The Chemical Brother’s hit “Hey Boy Hey Girl” music track.

2nd Place - Logzombie (STEAM_0:1:36143456)

"Hell Lord"

In an impressive 2nd place, Logzombie’s Gamemode-friendly horror PAC, the “Hell Lord”, is an eerie floating corpse with foot length nails driven throughout its body and a smokey mist that shrouds it the further you walk away. The PAC features the use of full-screen animations of terror that would fit well in games like ‘Dead by Daylight’ and ‘Friday the 13th’ where players are stalked and killed by a terrible monster. There were multiple jump scare type events that could occur while being chased, with 3 manually controlled longer sequences. The best way to describe it is to watch the video.

1st Place - Manti (STEAM_0:0:54911055)

"Jacked-O-Lantern"

Winning the contest with his extraordinary Dark Souls boss-like PAC, Manti’s “Jacked-O-Latern” packs a powerful punch. The Jacked-O-Lantern starts out planted in the ground, but rises up to reveal its muscular body when attacked, accompanied with its own action music and health bar. Featuring multiple fully-animated attacks, including a powerful arm swing, a running charge, an earth quaking jump, an arm-flailing spin, dangerously hot fire breath, flying knife missiles, and a huge pumpkin throw, this boss is no easy target to take down. The Jacked-O-Lantern also has the ability to charge up, which inflicts additional damage and alters the appearance of all of its attacks. Bringing its health down below half reveals its eerie glowing face, and killing it results in a unique death animation.
